Niels Gilissen & MIRATIO
Niels Gilissen (born in 1971) is an ecologist and nature photographer. He has a Msc in Environmental Sciences at the Wageningen University & Research Center. He has been working in nature conservation and ecological research since 1990 and since 2004 also in nature photography.
Miratio is Latin and means 'wonder' or 'astonishment'. It is the richness and beaty of nature that makes Niels Gilissen feel astonished and gives him inspiration to capture it in images or contribute to its conservation.
Nature Photography
Since the late 1990's he has been passionate with nature photography. He is always looking for ways to put an extra feeling into his images....a sense of wonder...... Capturing the 'spirit' of his subjects is what he is aiming for. He has published images in several magazines and books. He is steadily increasing his library of images. ConsultancyIn 2006 and 2007 Niels Gilissen conducted a free-lance consultancy project in (Northern) Sudan on wetland and waterbird conservation and avian influenza. In 2008 he took part in a mission to Southern Sudan, to give training and to explore and capture some of the wetlands in the remote parts of this vast country. See the consultancy page for more info.
