Voor mijn project om natuur en defensie in beeld te brengen, was ik op Vliegbasis Gilze-Rijen. Hier zit de enige populatie Boomkikkers van defensie. Na de voortplantingsperiode zwermen de kikkers vanuit de poel naar alle kanten uit. Eerst de adulten, gevolgd door de juvenielen. Ze zijn dan te vinden op de braamstruwelen, waar ze zich opwarmen in de zon en insecten vangen. Soms zijn de kikkers vlak bij de landingsbaan te vinden en mijn doel is om met een groothoek een laagvliegende helikopter samen met een Boomkikker in beeld te brengen. Het is nog niet gelukt, daarvoor is het nog iets te vroeg. Maar ik hoop dat ik binnenkort succes heb. Dit juveniele Boomkikkertje zat gehurkt tegen wat bramen om nog meer zonlicht op te vangen…net een kleine boeddha.

For my project to capture the relation between military and nature, I was at Airbase Gilze-Rijen. It is the only military area where a Tree frog population can be found. After the breeding season the frogs disperse from the pool into the surrounding area. First the adults, followed by the juveniles. One can find the animals on the bramble bushes, where they warm up in the sun and catch insects. Sometimes the frogs get close to the landing strip and my goal is to photograph one together with a helicopter using a wide angle lens. I haven’t succeeded, it is just too early. I hope I will soon. This juvenile was sitting against a bramble berry to catch the sunlight…..like a little buddha.
