Mission Nature

090603_NG1D_5757

At the end of November my book Missie Natuur (Mission Nature) about nature and landscapes of military areas has been published. This piece will describe the history, management, landscapes and species and also the special relationship between military activities and nature. The texts will be mixed with interviews and in-depth sections. The book ends with 49 area descriptions, including the secrets of the closed areas. But above all, the book is richly illustrated with, often unique, photos, in most cases accompanied by the exif data. The book will be the first step for the reader to explore the publicly accessible areas, for which useful tips are included in the descriptions. In all, this is a book that will be enjoyed by nature lovers, hikers, ecologists and nature photographers. It is available through the webshop of the KNNV-Uitgeverij, Bol.com and several bookshops, for only €19,95!

South Sudan

Sudd marshes South Sudan
South Sudan is a young state, with a violent past. I have had a dream to explore this area, which is one of the least known in Africa, and eventually it came out. What I witnessed was impressive: a torn country rising from its ashes, a wounded but proud people. And also: immense savannas and bush and the world’s largest inland wetland, the Sudd. The Sudd is home to incredible numbers of wildlife and birds and provides natural resources to a million people. However, it is threatened by oil drilling and drainage. My goal is to unveil the area through my pictures and show the value of this area for human and nature. I will visit the area again in the near future.
