At the beach of De Hors on Texel I witnessed an amazing performance of the art of flying. Sandwich terns, probably from the isle of Griend, were flying against a wind force 6 towards the North Sea, in their hunt for fish. The easy way they do it is stunning. Flying low over the waves, they make use of the little lee the waves provide. Taking in consideration that they have just undertaken a 10.000 kilometer journey from Namibia or South Africa, it is a tour the force.

The sun has just risen, a cold wind is blowing, when a soft yodel of a wood lark sounds above me. It is as if this sound of spring expels the cold. Wood larks are the first to show the winter out, however, this spring these birds were also having a hard time. They were reluctant to start singing. Meanwhile spring has begun truly, but I was contemplating this moment of a few weeks ago.
