In my previous blog I mentioned the beavers in De Blauwe Kamer. There have been beavers for over ten years now, but they had been hardly visible. The high floods of January inundated the lodges and the beavers had to flee to the dry parts of the area. Three of them choose the roadside as their temporary home. Despite their nocturnal behavior, they are not known to be particularly shy. However, this individual was extremely well obliging and paid no attention to the people. As close as a few meters it would tolerate photography, while continuing feeding or preening. It resulted in this portrait. An intimate view at a magnificent rodent, that has been the engineer of riverine forest for centuries, became extinct and that is now reconquering its former territory. A success story.
