I am experimenting with an infrared filter. In winter, without any green foliage, and on a cloudy day it is an extra challenge. This is because the infrared effect is strongest in bright sunlight and on green colors. But it is fun and it opens completely new creative possibilities. The stillness that infrared creates is intensified by the long exposure, making all moving subjects being blurred. An extra creative aspect is the vignetting.

My book, Mission Nature – Nature and landscape at military training areas, has been released! I am very satisfied with the result. After 10 years of photography at these sites I have build a nice portfolio of images. Of course not all of them made it to the book. This is such a photo. On the cover one can see several black-necked grebes, one of them is shown in close-up further in the book. This blog photo did not make it, but would have deserved to be included in the book. Making choices. Just like I was faced with making choices during the production of the book. What do I want to tell, how much depth do I want to put into it, what is the role of the photos, what should it look like..? In the end, one has to choose. I chose for this photo for the blog because I love the space, the stillness and a dominating color.
